ANDY Gurney has been tipped for a County Ground return although a lack of hard cash could prevent Wiltshire's own version of friends reunited taking place.

The 31-year-old former Town skipper has suddenly found himself surplus to requirements at the newly-promoted Welsh club.

Barely nine months after leaving Town to pen a three-year-deal with the Swans, Gurney now finds himself on the transfer list much to his surprise.

The rumour mill is already in full swing and sources close to the club have suggested Gurney is a possible target.

However, while manager Andy King has made no secret of his admiration for Gurney, a County Ground return would come at a price.

As it stands King thinks it would be a price beyond his reach.

Besides, the manager was unaware that his former captain was even available.

King said: "I have kept in touch with Andy Gurney since he left us to go to Swansea.

"In fact I probably speak to him every fortnight.

"If he's leaving Swansea then that's news to me.

"You're telling me something I wasn't aware of.

"We played their reserves a couple of weeks ago and he certainly didn't mention anything to Alan Reeves.

"As far as I am concerned Andy Gurney has a contract with Swansea City.

"I doubt very much we would be in a position to match that contract at this club.

"There is also the question of whether he would want to come back.

"If you're asking me though is Andy Gurney a player that I admire for the qualities he brings to a side then the answer is yes."

Despite being sidelined by Swansea, Gurney still feels he is more than capable of doing a job at this level.

In the aftermath of his transfer-listing he said: "I've got two years left on my contract and want to stay and change people's minds.

"I've not looked for a move, but if something comes along we'll see."
