RESIDENTS in Penhill will be given tips as part of a scheme to improve fire safety.
Wiltshire Fire Brigade will be working with Sure Start to bring this opportunity to North Swindon.
They will be at the centre next Wednesday, June 1 from 9.30am.
Firefighters from the Stratton fire station will be on hand at the Surestart centre to fit free smoke alarms and to give home fire safety checks
They hope these checks will spot potential dangers.
The firefighters will also hold talks at the Everleigh Road centre to discuss fire hazards and how danger can be avoided.
Sub officer Brian Morris thinks the event will lead to more homes being safeguarded.
He said: "It is important people know about the risks and to fit smoke detectors.
"I hope by giving them away more people will take notice of their benefits."
Surestart offers integrated, good quality early learning and daycare for children, as well as the provision of child and family health services, including antenatal services.
The centres also give parents links with Jobcentre Plus, local training providers and further and higher education institutions. If you are unable to attend call the Surestart centre for information on 01793 705091.
