SWINDON has failed to make it into the latest guidebook for Great Britain.
The new Lonely Planet guide to Great Britain features Malmesbury, Bradford on Avon, Devizes and Salisbury in its Wiltshire chapter but Swindon does not even get a mention.
Researchers did visit the town but the book's lead co-ordinating author said that there was just not enough space to fit everything in.
"It is unfortunate," said David Else. "We have only 800 pages in which to cover the whole of Great Britain.
"Sometimes some towns have to be cut. Swindon unfortunately was one of them.
"We have a team of eight researchers. We visit a lot of places and we then have to make a decision about what can go in.
"If it is any consolation to the people of Swindon, Reading didn't make it either.
"It is a guide for tourists and we have to make a harsh decision sometimes."
