MUMS, grandmothers, sisters and daughters are being called up in the fight against heart disease.

The British Heart Foundation (BHF) has launched its Help a Heart Week and is calling on women in Swindon and Wiltshire to support the event from June 4 to June 12.

According to the organisation heart and circulatory disease kill over 2,400 women during Help a Heart Week, while one in three women die from heart and circulatory disease.

But the BHF says that women of all ages are largely unaware of the risks that heart disease poses to women. As part of Help a Heart Week, the BHF will ask women and their families to show they care by helping to raise funds for the charity's work, which helps to pay for research into the causes and treatment of heart disease.

Prof Anna Dominiczak of the British Heart Foundation said: "Heart disease is the most serious health issue for women in the UK today, affecting the lives of mothers, sisters and grandmothers just like you."
