GAZETTE & HERALD: THIEVES stole a forklift truck and took it on a late night joyride around a Calne building site.
Police are searching for the culprits, who struck between 8.45pm and 9.30pm on May 11.
It is thought they entered the site of the new Deceuninck headquarters on the Porte Marsh Estate and managed to steal the forklift.
Police believe the forklift was chained to a dumper truck, but the offenders drove the dumper away, snapping the chain.
PC Nick Davey said the forklift was then taken on a spree around the building site, before it was driven through safety fencing and abandoned on the side of the road.
PC Davey said the whole episode would have lasted around ten minutes and caused approximately £1,000 of damage.
"Machinery like this doesn't always have unique keys so sometimes it's a case of one size fits all," he said. "I think that's what happened in this case."
He said he dealt with a similar event at the nearby Bye Bibby factory warehouse a couple of months ago.
PC Davey appealed for anyone with information to contact him at Calne Police Station.
