FOR the first time in three years Devizes will have a skatepark facility when mobile equipment comes to the town.
The mobile unit will be in Devizes on Sunday afternoons and Wednesday evenings.
It will initially be based at Station Road car park from this Sunday but will move to Devizes Leisure Centre from June 15 once building work is completed.
Many youngsters were left disappointed when the skate park based in Hillworth Park was closed down in February 2002 following a county court case involving resident Bill Richardson. A judge agreed with him that the noise from the equipment was a nuisance and ordered Devizes Town Council to remove equipment.
Since then the town council has looked at numerous sites to put the equipment without success.
The town council has joined with North Wiltshire District Council and other town councils to provide the mobile skate park facility, called Raw Meet.
Users of the mobile skate park have to sign up as members. There is a joining fee of £5 or £10 for a family and it costs £1 per session.
Devizes mayor Peter Evans said: "We have been trying to get a skate park in Devizes for many years and at long last we have got something."
He said he hoped it will be very well used.
