SWINDON'S trading standards department has been recognised for its high quality legal advice.
The department's consumer advice service was awarded the Legal Service Commission's Quality Mark after auditors were impressed with the service offered.
Robert Taylour, public protection group leader at Swindon Council, was delighted with the recognition.
"The award of the Quality Mark is a huge boost to the service which has faced a number of challenges over the past year," he said.
"It has included staff turnover, new databases and increased regional working whereby telephone calls are dealt with initially by Consumer Direct South West and complex cases are dealt with locally."
The service has developed by setting up an outreach advice session at Pinehurst People's Centre in partnership with the Citizens Advice Bureau every Wednesday from 10am to 1pm.
Residents or businesses can also call in to the Safer Swindon Shop in Havelock Street between 10am and 3.30pm Monday to Friday.
Alternatively, consumers can ring Consumer Direct South West on 08454 040506 and businesses can call 01793 532637.
