MUCH has been written and said about the problem of escalating scrawl or graffiti which plagues all areas of Swindon.

Some points which appear to be ignored are, firstly to examine the source of the spray cans and indelible felt tip pens which are the apparent tools of the trade to these vandals.

Secondly, are the police serious about catching the culprits?

My impression is that, along with the walls beside the Sheppard Street to Iffley Road cycle track, the graffiti vandals strike during the hours of darkness when all the officers on duty are dealing with the drunks outside the town's nightspots.

I hate to say it, but our cheap, one price shops are partly to blame for the constant supply of spray cans to these people. From evidence of the major colours being daubed, it is clear that motor paint spray in basic colours is being used.

We must take names when the paints and pens are sold over the counter. Also, the police need to use heavy manpower at specific targeted areas to catch these criminals.
