I would like to thank the many people in Marlborough who contributed to the success of the extraordinary visit by the Yale Schola Cantorum under their conductor Simon Carrington.
It was truly Marlborough at its best.
Twenty-five members of the choir from Yale University and five UK-based orchestral players lived in the community for eight days, generously hosted by local people. They performed in magnificent settings including Marlborough College Chapel where they performed with the Chapel Choir, Winchester Cathedral, Magdalen College, Oxford and St George's Chapel, Windsor, returning each night to Marlborough.
I would like to thank their hosts in the town and surrounding villages and the Master of Marlborough College for the generous hospitality that was afforded the choir and Ian Sutcliffe, the director of music at Marlborough who was immensely supportive of what was a major project.
All those who heard the choir will testify to their extraordinarily beautiful singing. They will be missed by all those who got to know them. They were great ambassadors for Yale and the US.
The tour raised over £7,000 for UKOWLA (One World Linking Association) from the kind donations at each of the concerts.
