A PUBLIC meeting for people in Melksham to talk to health bosses has been organised for Thursday night.
Carol Clarke, who is the joint chief executive for West Wilts and Kennet and North Wiltshire Primary Care Trusts, will be speaking at the town's Assembly Hall from 6.30pm.
The meeting has been organised by the town council, which is concerned about the long-term future of the community hospital in Spa Road. Fears were raised when two GPs said they were forced to cancel their care contracts, threatening the future of 24 beds in the hospital's inpatient ward.
One GP has already finished his contract, meaning half the beds have already been axed.
The remaining 12 are safe until the end of next month.
The PCT said it was looking at GP contracts with hospital's across the board as a result.
A protest march through the streets of Melksham is being organised in June by UNISON.
