The peacock in Mill Lane Picture Ref: 77568-53A PEACOCK is not something you would expect to see strolling down a Swindon road.
But as cars drove along Mill Lane in Old Town they were confronted with the bird.
And, the bird's feathers must have been ruffled by something because it was challenging cars as they drove past. But mystery surrounds where it had come from.
Wendy Webber, 29, of Wootton Bassett, was driving along the road when the peacock suddenly stepped out in front of her car.
The peacock was walking around a bend in the road when she came across it.
Miss Webber said: "I nearly ran it over. It ran straight out in front of me with all its feathers on display.
"I didn't know if it wanted a fight or something. It stood in the middle of the road and it was challenging all of the cars.
"As I slowed down it came up to my car really close. It was pecking at the cars."
Swindon Council's animal wardens said they were not responsible for birds on the road and the south west branch of the RSPCA said it would only get involved if the bird needed rescuing.
Police spokeswoman Alvina Kumar said: "We haven't had any calls about it. If it was causing a danger to drivers a police car would go out."
