Becky Shinwell, five, and Lauren Woodham, six, get to grips with the worlds most popular utensils Picture Ref: 77621-03PUPILS took part in a sponsored Chopstick Challenge to celebrate World Awareness Week.
The challenge to Lethbridge School pupils was to move as many items as possible into their bowls in two minutes using a pair of chopsticks. Each child then chose whether they wanted to spend the money on improving facilities at Lethbridge School or on rebuilding a primary school in Sri Lanka which has been destroyed by the tsunami.
Vivienne Wise, chairwoman of the Friend of Lethbridge, said: "This sponsored event has really captured the pupils' imaginations. We gave each pupil a pair of chopsticks to practise with at home and each child has received a Diploma in Chopstick Dexterity certificate to show their sponsors that they've completed the challenge."
One and a half billion people in China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam and Singapore eat using chopsticks, making them the second most-used eating utensils in the world, the first being fingers and the third a knife and fork.
"And now pupils at Lethbridge Primary School can use them too."
