A while ago Wiltshire Police were telling us, after another motorway closure, that the accident rate on the M4 was at a level they'd expect for the type of road and volume of traffic.

The following week, the Wiltshire Camera Partnership decided instead that the number of accidents on the M4 was excessive and that they needed a campaign of speed cameras to save us all.

On Wednesday the Evening Advertiser reported that the Government's Transport Minister had declared the exercise a great success, because of the number of people speeding has been reduced.

Had there had been any significant improvement in the accident rate?

I assume not, otherwise Mr Darling might have mentioned it as well.
