Picture Ref: 77682-27A CROWD of beer guzzling runners have been charging around Wanborough.

The village hosted its annual high-speed pub crawl and the bank holiday fun began with a leisurely pint just to get things started.

Groups of runners race from pub to pub, drinking a half pint of beer at each and the winner was 21 year-old Ian Herring.

He completed the course in 16 minutes.

For Tim Hunt, 45, of Wanborough, this was his final race.

Mr Hunt, who works in engineering supplies, has donned his running shoes 17 times and thinks it's time to hang up his running shoes.

He said: "I have been doing it for so many years that I thought this would be my last. But I wanted it to be a good one so I thought I would dress up." He was wearing a Union Jack around his shoulders and a red, white and blue hat.

The starting venue changes each year and yesterday it was the turn of the Black Horse.

From there the route took the 33 runners to the Plough, the Harrow, the Brewers and the Cross Keys, with the finishing line back at the Black Horse.

Dave Cox, 24, a town planner from Wanborough, ran the race for the second time. He said: "I do it because it's tradition.

"It's synonymous with Wanborough."

People don't realise but it is tough running when you're drinking bitter."
