GREYHOUND'S dominance of the Swindon Sunday League scene was shattered by a defunct team of 40-year-olds on Sunday, writes CRAIG LYUS.

M&B Rangers, former kings of the league themselves, reunited for a one-off exhibition game against their old adversaries.

And it was M&B who won the veterans encounter 3-2 at Stratton's Premier Club.

The 13-times top flight champions folded several years ago but used to monopolise Division One alongside Greyhound.

All the old favourites reunited to take the bragging rights once again.

Chris Joyce should have put M&B ahead from the spot early on after a foul from Jimmy Walters, but he missed the penalty.

M&B continued to dictate, with Witney boss Alan Clark the driving force.

The breakthrough came when Joyce atoned for his earlier miss by converting Ray McGrory's corner.

McGrory, who organised the the reunion of the old rivals, netted the second himself with a fine individual effort before the break.

Greyhound pulled one back after the interval through Highworth favourite Dave Webb but McGrory pounced again to restore the two-goal lead.

Mark Jell gave Greyhound a glimmer of hope with 15 minutes left but M&B held on in a frantic climax thanks to the resolute defending of Roger Emms and fine goalkeeping by Paul Haines.

M&B's Alan Dyton, manager of Hellenic League Shrivenham, said: "M&B Rangers are kings once again. The game was played with plenty of passion as it meant a lot to both teams even though most of us are outdated."
