Five year olds Daisy Little and Emily Blackmore go duck hunting Picture Ref: 77667-64A SWINDON community centre held a fete to let the public know it is back in business.
The Park South community centre in Cranmore Avenue is once again a hive of activity and the committee wanted to hold a big event to let everybody know.
Tony Stevens, secretary of the committee which runs the centre, said: "The fete was to mark the re-opening of the centre.
"Although it never fully closed it hadn't really been used for three or four years.
"About nine months ago most of the committee resigned, and some of the older members stepped down.
"Since then we've been raising money to get the floors refurbished and the windows replaced.
"We thought now was the time to invite the mayor to come down and let everyone know it's opened again."
After the mayor's ribbon-cutting ceremony, the fete had all the usual activities like the raffle and tombola, but there was also a contemporary modern dance performance by Andrea Colton, who recently won a performing arts prize at New College.
Mr Stevens said: "It all went fantastically well. There was a far higher turn-out than we expected
"There must have been more than 150 people here, and we also took several bookings, and had lots of enquiries."
The centre is already the venue for brownies and guides, line-dancing, kung-fu, dog training and a Sunday lunch club.
And plans are in the pipeline for a Friday night youth club.
