I was pleased but not surprised to read that Swindon's libraries are performing extremely well and bucking the national trend for borrowing by six percent, but felt that some of the libraries' best qualities were not mentioned.
Every year a Summer Reading Game is run to encourage kids to keep up with their reading in the summer holidays (this year it is called the Reading Voyage).
Moredon Library runs a homework club on Monday evenings for children and parents called SOKS (Support Our Kids).
There is a home library service for housebound readers, internet training sessions to help beginners get online, storytime sessions for tots and mums, not forgetting the staff who never use the stereotypical "Shhh!" and will bend over backwards to assist.
My point is that I believe many Swindonians are unaware of all the fabulous things there are to do and see at our libraries and it's even free to join.
Let's encourage a 'Smarter Swindon' and get down to the library!
