An inspirational innings by skipper John Baden and a fine bowling performance were enough to see Swindon continue their unbeaten start in Glos/Wilts One.

Worcestershire side Bredon were expected to provide a stern challenge for Swindon, but this eventually proved to be something of a mis-match as Swindon's greater strength in depth told.

Having elected to bat first, Swindon struggled against the Bredon opening pair of Hill and left-armer Bridge and soon found themselves in trouble as Hill removed both Mark Williamson and Darren Rourke.

Tim Barton and Baden began the slow process of rebuilding the innings before Barton also fell to the impressive Hill.

Will Nichols joined skipper Baden at the crease and he banished his early season struggles by constructing a fine half century, and the pair added more than 100 for the third wicket before Nichols was bowled by the impressive Hill.

With the overs running out Baker (4) and then Zohaib (0) both fell trying to increase the run rate before wicketkeeper Andy Staff joined Baden in a whirlwind stand.

With Baden now in full flow and Staff running well between the wickets, the pair managed to get Swindon to a respectable 210-7 from their allotted 50 overs, Baden finishing just two short of a well deserved century.

The Swindon opening attack of Nichols and Rodge Willoughby had made early breakthroughs in all the fixtures thus far and again they didn't disappoint as they removed Allen and Hall respectively in a fine opening burst.

When Bredon's professional Risdale was run out for a duck shortly afterwards, and Willoughby struck again to remove Fenney lbw, Swindon sensed victory.

Dom O'Neill replaced Willoughby with almost immediate effect, trapping Carter lbw and then in tandem with Nichols proceeded to blow away the Bredon lower order.

Matt Hill was the only Bredon player to offer any real resistance with 22 not out.

This was another fine display by Swindon's seam trio of Nichols (3-25), Willoughby (2-29) and O'Neill (3-14).

In the reverse fixture, Swindon's 2nd also triumphed with a thrilling last over victory over Bredon 2nd.

Bowling first, Swindon managed to restrict Bredon to 208 from 45 overs.

In reply, Swindon made a good start and looked to be coasting to victory with less than a run a ball needed from the last 15 overs and nine wickets in hand.

However when first Beasant (53) and Baden (65) fell, the innings faltered and it was left to Adam Tribbick with a whirlwind 42 to secure victory by taking 22 from the last two overs.
