GAZETTE & HERALD: JOHN Ford, the chairman and match secretary of the Chippenham and District Tennis League for 24 years, died after being hit by a car yesterday.
Mr Ford, well-known throughout the Wiltshire tennis world, died in the Royal United Hospital with his wife Jeannette by his side.
The 64-year-old was standing at the back of his car when he was struck by a red Honda Civic on Bradley Road, Trowbridge at 7am.
He was taken to hospital with serious leg fractures but died from his injuries yesterday lunchtime.
Mr Ford, who lived in Westbury ran Red, Smith and Ford Sports in Trowbridge.
He had been involved with the tennis league since its inception in 1961.
