Anthony Kane setting off from Chippenham to run to London and back to raise money for the NSPCC (16240/2)GAZETTE & HERALD: CHIPPENHAM'S very own Forest Gump, 50-year-old Anthony Kane set off from the town's cenotaph on a sponsored run to London last Tuesday.
Running enthusiast Mr Kane embarked on the challenge to raise money for Cancer Research and was greeted by a public ovation on the A4.
He has already clocked up around 300 miles this year, running to and from his Chippenham home and work place, Brewster's at Cepen Park.
Mr Kane, who has aspirations to compete in the Olympics said: "People say I'm the Chippenham version of Forest Gump. I run everywhere."
In a post card Mr Kane sent to the Gazette offices from Avebury, eight hours into the run, he wrote: "I am aching in my feet but resting as I am a diabetic. I've regained life after tea. Onwards Hungerford, then Reading and London."
Team leader at Brewster's, Gemma Stanombe, who works with Mr Kane said: "He's always doing marathons and raising money for charity. I don't know where he gets the energy from. It's brilliant." Brewster's gave the fitness fanatic a week off to complete the personal test, but they were flexible with the time if it took him any longer.
He did not set himself a target, but Mr Kane said he would aim to finish as quickly as possible and depending how he felt when he got to London, he would run back to Chippenham.
