GAZETTE & HERALD: THIS year marks the golden jubilee of Colerne Village Hall and to celebrate a fundraising weekend and an autumn party has been organised.
The building is one of the main focal points in the community and many of the men who helped to build the hall will be at the event.
Eighty-three year old Dennis Coles, from Tutton Hill moved to Colerne in 1949. When an advert appeared in the local press to build the hall he was keen to get involved and immediately took up the role of chairman.
"The whole village joined in," he said. "Everyone had different skills, like electricians, plumbers and it was all voluntary. We worked night times and weekends for about two years.
To raise money for the hall, on June 11 and 12, 15 gardens and the allotments will be open to view and quilts made by Colerne Crazy Quilters will be on show in the hall.
A wall hanging, made by members, will be raffled.
The combined events will be open from 10am until 4pm each day, with tickets £5, or £4 for concessions. Accompanied children go free.
