16278/115GAZETTE & HERALD: FANCY dress Tommies and GIs revelled in the action-packed agenda at Box last weekend. A record 4,000-plus people, flocked to this year's Revels, themed the Flying Forties to mark the 60th anniversary of VE Day.

Young and old joined in the celebrations, jiving and singing to timeless classics before enjoying an old-fashioned afternoon tea once they had built up a thirst.

Chairman of Box Revels, Bill Cotton said the team, which took six months to organise the spectacle, were very pleased with how it went.

"It was very successful. It was good fun, everything went well," he said.

The bank holiday weekend began with the Box Ritzy Cinema experience at the Selwyn Hall.

Chicken Run was screened in the morning for the little ones, with a sing-a-long Sound Of Music being shown in the afternoon.

Mr Cotton said people came dressed up as nuns and had a wonderful time watching the old movie.

Two female singers from the village, Helen West and Cath Knight, who make up Boxy Sisters performed hits from the 1940s, including those of forces sweetheart Vera Lynn.

Around 50 local charity stalls completed the line-up over the three days raising money for good causes in the village.

Where the money goes will be decided later.
