GOATACRE produced a superb all round display to thrash Wiltshire rivals Warminster and move into second place in Division One on Saturday.
An unbeaten century by Peter Turner in his first game of the season helped set Goatacre up for a 150-run victory.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Sam Parish's side lost Steve Lines early on but a stand of 85 in 14 overs between Steve Gee and Matt Wilkins set them on their way with Gee racing to 71 at better than a run a ball before being bowled with the score on 98.
Goatacre were then reduced to 100-4 after Wilkins was trapped lbw and his brother Jif was bowled without scoring.
But Turner and Kevin Iles steadied the ship until Iles was caught for 26 with the score on 134.
Turner then began to dominate the Warminster attack and with support from Ed Wilkins (30) took the score to over 200 before he was caught.
Dan Horton then joined Turner and they proceeded to put on an unbroken century partnership in the last ten overs.
Horton finished on 39, including three consecutive sixes, and Turner brought up his hundred in the last over with a six as Goatacre ended up on a massive 311-6.
Warminster were never in the hunt after Jif Wilkins and Kevin Iles (3-28) had reduced them to 35-3.
Horton then produced his best spell of the season, taking two wickets, to leave Warminster on 63-6 and despite some late hitting from Pinchen and Beauchamp they could only muster 161.
Goatacre captain Parish said the team was now full of confidence and were beginning to believe they could do far better than last season's mid-table finish.
"To be honest we could have bowled them out a lot cheaper than we did but a couple of their lower order batsmen came in with the game lost and slogged out a few runs," said the captain.
"We will be welcoming back Scott Curwood and Adam Iles this week and it is amazing that we are still three players short of our first team."
Parish said he was pleased Turner returned to the side with an unbeaten century.
"It was his first game for us this season and probably shows how much we have missed him.
"He was very controlled early on and then towards the end, when we had wickets in hand, he took them apart."
Goatacre travel to Bredon this Saturday with the away side looking to pick up another victory.
"When we played up their last year it was a very bouncy wicket and one of their bowlers took nine wickets. We also dropped a catch that if we had held onto then we would have won."
