MARLBOROUGH picked up a second victory of the season with a convincing seven-wicket victory over Hinton Charterhouse.

After reaching 110-4, Hinton capitulated to 126-7 before reaching a disappointing final total of 149-8.

It was obvious within the first few overs that Marlborough would comfortably reach the target.

Openers Nick Crabbe (43) and Peter Day (30) did not hang around in reaching 69 before Crabbe was caught out off James Palmer's bowling.

Day, who was then helped along by Kiwi Simon Williams (37no), was bowled by Graham Tanner but not before he had hit a huge six.

Palmer then picked up a second wicket before Williams and captain Richard Turnell's (29no) partnership of 49 took Marlborough to victory with more than ten overs spare. Turnell said: "They were 80-2 and their Sri Lankan (Samson Burke) was going well but we managed to squeeze him out with a diving catch by Tom Wallbridge and kept the pressure on.

"By keeping the score under 150 we always had a chance.

"Our openers got us off to a good start and they didn't hang around. Nick Crabbe got his 43 off 57 balls and Peter Day got his 30 off 52 balls.

"It was great to see our overseas player (Williams) get some runs under his belt as well."

Marlborough take the long trip to rock-bottom Cinderford St John, who were beaten by neighbours Biddestone at the weekend, this Saturday.

Turnell said his side will not be taking anything for granted before the match begins.

"They have been our bogey team for the last couple of years.

"I cannot actually remember our last win over them so it would be good to break that spell," added the captain.

"If we can manage a win out there then it will be a good start to the season and the squad will have a lot of confidence."
