CORSHAM gained revenge for two defeats by Frenchay last season with a 107-run victory at Station Road on Saturday.

Corsham won the toss against their bogey team and chose to bat first.

The decision looked the right one as they reached 106 before Tom Abbot was bowled by Josse Vandeweyer for 46.

A partnership of 117 from Peter Dennett, who hit 107 runs off 132 balls, and Richard Foley, 65 not out on 70 balls, took Corsham to 223 before Dennett was caught by Mike Donaldson off the bowling of Garreth Elphick.

Steve Perrin, in his first game back this season, then fired a quick fire 61 off 38 balls before he was run out, quickly followed by Stephen Nicholls caught lbw off Elphick.

The home side then tore apart Frenchay's opening batsman with only opening batsman Elphick (49 off 34 balls) showing any sort of resistance.

After he was caught out by Tom Abbot off Toby Sharpe's bowling Frenchay continued to gift wickets to the home side.

Azar Bhatti brought a small amount of respectability to the score, hitting two fours and two sixes but could only last eight balls and landed his side in trouble yet again.

Some resistance came in the form of a 63 partnership between captain Donaldson, who was eventually caught by James Ashford-Brown for 46, and Josse Vandeweyer, caught by Nicholls for 37.

The last three wickets fell for just 11 runs as Frenchay fell 107 runs short of their target.

Neil Shardlow was impressed by his entire team and liked seeing Perrin in Flintoff-type form with the bat.

The captain said: "Steve does like to give the ball a whack. He hit his sixes so far they could have easily been 12s.

"It's the first time he's picked up the bat this season and the way the game went it set it up for a quick fire half century he took us from a total nearing 250 to over 300.

"Richard Foley added to his good knock last week with another and that will boost his confidence as he is now in form.

"Peter (Dennett) has been playing well since the same sort of time last year when he began opening the batting and the position's been his ever since.

"It's the first time for about three years that anyone's hit a century so it is coming at a good time with Bath coming up next week."

Shardlow said he would have some difficult choices to make this week with Ollie Smith returning to add even more firepower.

He added: "We put Tom Abbot to open and he almost made his half century. It will be a tough decision with what to go with on Saturday but it is a good one to have."

Shardlow said he hopes to give Bath a tough game at their North Parade ground with bowlers Sharpe, Ashford-Brown, Foley and Craig Chaplin all picking up a number of wickets.

Paul Clifford could return to the bowling line-up meaning Chaplin, who had the best figures against Frenchay (3-19), missing out.

"Bath have started off well and seem to have a stronger squad than last year," said Shardlow.

"We have never done well down there so it is time to put that right.

"I've told the guys it is time to prove ourselves."
