CRUSADER WILTSHIRE LEAGUE: NO clear picture has appeared at the top of the Division after five weeks of the season with ten points covering the top five.

Box and Purton both lost for the first time while at the foot of the table Spye Park won at the expense of Collingbourne.

At Spye, Collingbourne were bowled out for 145 with Barry Longfield (33) top scoring as John Bathe took 5-44 in 12 overs, John Beal 2-19 in ten and Dave Beal 2-43. Spye paced their reply well to win by seven wickets with six overs to spare, thanks to John Haines (50), Paul Fennell (40no).

Barry Longfield bowled economically for Collingbourne, his 12 overs costing just 22 runs.

Despite their first defeat, at home to Lechlade, Box share top spot with their conquerors. Box were bowled out for 197 with Dean Damascas smashing 100, while Wayne Bambrick took 5-39 in his 11 overs.

Thanks to an unbeaten 71 from R Khan, Lechlade won by four wickets with three balls to spare. Alan Cook took 3-30 in 10.1 overs for Box.

Purton, in third, were surprisingly beaten at home by Calne John Gladdins (102) and Rob Anstey (52) helping them to 248-7 with Purton being held to 200-7 in reply.

Wootton Bassett visited Bath Civil Service and thanks to Ray Patel (60) and Chris Chappell (46no) totalled 209-5. Ian Lancaster took 5-45 as the Civil Service were bowled out for 135.

Great Bedwyn entertained Westinghouse who scored 205-8 thanks to Chris Fry (63), Steve Wakeley (64) and John Peters (51) with Alan Turnell taking four wickets. Rob Palmer (105no) spearheaded the Bedwyn response and led them to a four-wicket victory with nine overs to spare.

AFTER the first month only Avebury remain unbeaten, as Potterne, Sutton Veny and Swindon Civil Service all suffered their first defeats. At the other end of the table, Urchfont still look for that elusive first victory.

Avebury travelled to Civil Service and Greg Dix (95) helped them to 203-8. Martin Spackman responded (76no) but it was not enough as Civil Service closed 20 runs short on 183-7.

Nationwide House, seeking a quick return to Division One, are second as they comfortably defeated struggling Urchfont by nine wickets. Urchfont were bowled out for 132, Neil Francis (38), Paul Slater (36) top scoring as the Nationwide bowlers shared the wickets Dave Close (3-21), Charlie Pilkington (3-24) and Mark Morris (2-14). Mick Harris (60no) and Stuart Archer (59no) then saw Nationwide home with nine overs to spare.

Potterne's first defeat was at the hands of Seagry, who claimed their first win. Seagry, batting first, scored 161-8 with Alex Ferreday (38), Paul Bailey (31) and Mat Purton (25) all making useful contributions. The pick of the Potterne bowlers were Neil Doran (3-43 in 12) and Sean Kerley (2-27 in 10).

Potterne were then dismissed for 147 despite a fine unbeaten 71 from Graham Gaiger as Willy Tidmarsh took 3-36 in 11, Nick Lancaster 3-28 in 12 and Mike Hunt 2-28 in 12.

Blunsdon also won for the first time and inflicted a first defeat upon their visitors, Sutton Veny. With Garry Spence taking 5-23 in 10.2 overs and Darren Fisher 4-40 in 11, Sutton Veny were bowled out for 138. A match winning 59 from Kevin Aubrey then guided Blunsdon to a narrow two wicket success, despite Colin Brown (3-34) and Anthony Trollope (3-33) keeping a hold on the run rate.

UNBEATEN Swindon 3rd XI have already opened a 21-point gap over nearest challengers Moredon Royal Oak after inflicting a 167-run defeat on winless Cherhill.

Nick Parkinson (76), Wayne Steptoe (36) and Mark Bowler (34) saw Swindon to 227-5. Tim Raven took 2-36 in five overs. Cherhill then collapsed to 60 all out as Randy Roze had 4-6 in three overs, Steve Cole 2-24 in nine and Tom Shanks 2-6 in five.

Moredon RO visited Beanacre and scored 177-4 thanks to Roger Morton (82no) and Tom Hanks (44no). For Beanacre Alan Story had 2-29 in 12 and John Moor 2-23 in 12. Phil Morton (3-19 in 10) and Hanks (4-40 in 12) then bowled Beanacre out for 82.

Wanborough restricted visiting Lambourn to 144-8, with Steve Annetts (41no) and Graham Hawkins (34) in form, while Nick Stacey took 4-47 in 11 and David Cox 3-41 in 12.

In reply, Paul Sore (42) and Tom Clinning (29no) helped the home side to a six-wicket win with four overs to spare. Rob Wilson (2-26 in 9) being the pick of the visiting bowlers.

Third placed Wroughton Wranglers visited Burbage & E.R. and scored 166-5 with Mark McMeekin knocking 44. Terry Strong, for the home side, bowled a classy spell of 1-5 in ten overs. Despite Pete Amor's 53, Burbage were then bowled out for 129. McMeekin (4-23 in 12) and Mike Evans (4-23 in 8) doing the damage.

At Corsham, visitors Wilcot were bowled out for 120 Anthony Fyfe (30) top scoring as Simon Acornley took 5-29 in 12, ably supported by Chris Bush 3-28 in 12, Ned Jones 1-24 in 12 and Joe Shillaker 1-11 in seven. Tamlyn Goodrich (49) and Mat Unwin (39) then helped Corsham 3rd's to a six-wicket victory.

BRADFORD Town and Heytesbury are still undefeated, while relegated Highworth are struggling and have yet to win.

Heytesbury bowled visiting Highworth out for 120, Mark Thatcher hit 35 as Justin Wagstaff took 3-32 in 11 overs. John Livesey (41no) and Brian Christian (26) then helped Heytesbury to a seven-wicket victory.

Swindon Litten Tree are the current leaders, having played a game more after they had defeated hosts Coates by 168 runs. Mark Brown (68), John Brown (43) and Brian Mercer (47) helped Litten Tree to 234-9; Terry Sanderson taking 4-51 in 12. Coates were then bowled out for 66 Tim Samson 3-6 in three.

Nationwide House struggled for runs at Keevil, as Dick Waylen and Robert Boult shared seven wickets finishing with 129 all out. Will Perkins responded with 6-27 as Keevil were bowled out for 105.

ALREADY opening a gap are unbeaten Chippenham 3rd XI and Wootton Bassett 2nd XI, while Devizes 3rd XI, Warminster 3rd XI and Mildenhall are still looking for a first win.

Chippenham entertained Buscot Park 2nd XI and dismissed them for 158; Peter Stone (32) and Anthony Watts (29) top scoring while Simon Merryweather took 4-20 in 11 overs and Aaron Merryweather 4-36 in 10.

Merryweather (32) and an unbeaten 95 by Richard Harrison helped Chippenham to a narrow two-wicket win as John Taylor took 4-38 in eight and Anthony Watts 2-28 in 12.

Wootton Bassett 2nd XI bowled struggling Warminster 3rd XI out for 80 with Barry Thirkell taking 3-26 in ten and Tom Davis 3-4 in eight. Dave Griffin (38no) and Jim Burns (28no) then knocked the runs off in 19 overs to give Bassett a nine-wicket win.

Beehive Bradford lost for the first time, going down by three wickets at Nettleton. They struggled to 100 all out, Lee Hamley top scoring with 23 as Neil Wichard took 5-14 and Steve James 3-17. Graham Fone responded with 3-14 but this was not enough to prevent a Nettleton win.

Westinghouse 2nd XI restricted visiting Mildenhall too 129-6, Y Hassania (47no), with Chris Holbrook taking 2-8 in six overs. A classy 71 from Paul Gilbert then helped Westinghouse to a six wicket success.

BRADFORD Town 2nd XI top the Division after a comfortable win at Calne 2nd's. Bradford scored 210 all out thanks to Adam Cooksey (73) and Tom Burrows (43). Cooksey (5-29) and Dave Collins (2-19) then bowled Calne out for 100.

Cooper-Avon Tyres 2nd XI picked up their first win at the expense of visiting Goatacre 3rd XI. Cooper-Avon scored 186-8, Graham Jenkins 5-43 in 12 overs. Goatacre were then bowled out for 122 as Andy Hillman took 3-8.

Westbury 3rd XI bowled visiting All Cannings out for 240, and were never quite able to reach the asking rate as they were dismissed for 184.

Lacock scored 242-8 at home to Box 2nd XI, thanks to skipper Barry Harding (83), supported by Phil Stean (40).

For Box Ian Tait had 4-74 in 12 overs. Box then struggled against the opening Lacock attack of Clive Harding and Alex Doel, who picked up three wickets apiece, and were finally bowled out for 113.

Burbage and E.R. 2nd XI travelled to Trowbridge A and scored 202-9 with Graham Flippance 63 and Paul Street 39. In their reply, Trowbridge were bowled out for 158, Andrew Jefferies hitting 69 not out.

DESPITE their first defeat, against Cherhill, Chippenham 4th XI head the Division.

Paul Rowson (62) helped Chippenham to 141-7 but then Steve Hutchison (61no) and Graham Hallett (27) steered Cherhill to a five-wicket victory with six overs remaining Chris Sykes picking up 3-27 in his 12 overs.

Joint second, with a game in hand, are Corsham 4th XI and Dauntsey Gentlemen, both unbeaten.

Corsham bowled hosts Marshfield 3rd XI out for 146, Andrew Pierce hit 57 as Martin Ings took 7-15 in 11 overs, including the last four wickets to fall in five balls. Tom Shardlow (55no) and Nathan Hand (32) then saw Corsham home by six wickets with seven balls to spare.

Dauntsey Gentlemen visited Collingbourne 2nd XI and bowled them out for 127, David Gale hitting 25 with Terry Sykes taking 5-29. Paul Biggs (36no) and Hugh Clement (29) then helped Dauntsey to a five wicket win. Wootton Bassett 3rd XI picked up their first win of the season at the expense of visiting Bath Civil Service 2nd.XI in a high scoring encounter. Bassett made 256-8 thanks to Clive McDaid (66) and Nick Lawson (45); James Purchase taking 4-63 in 12. Civil Service, in reply, were dismissed for 241, with Alex Cowan (107) and Ian Ryder (25) in form, while Graham Ling (3-69), Mike Tyree (2-22) and J.P.Lowther (3-52) took the wickets.

Beanacre 2nd XI have yet to win following their eight-wicket defeat at Biddestone 3rd XI. They were bowled out for just 90 with Gareth Unwin taking 4-11. Martin Sawyer (33no) and Chris Casey (25) top scored for Biddestone.

HEADING the Division are Bathford 2nd XI who remain undefeated after a 15-run home victory against previously undefeated Swindon 4th XI. Bathford scored 171-9 Dan Sutton top scoring, while Barry Reid had 3-31.

Swindon, in reply, made 156 all out, Paul Reid (40), Tom Leggat (33) and Simon Leggatt (23) top scoring as Ian Waller took 5-42 in 12 overs.

Newcomers North Bradley continued their good start to League cricket as they defeated another new side, Spye Park 2nd XI, by 110 runs. Bradley made 212 all out with Steve Greenwood (71), Olly Howe (25) and Andrew Coalbrook (24) the pick while Wayne Young took 8-34 in 8.1 overs. Spye then collapsed to 102 all out, despite Geoff Payne hitting 35 and Rich Farmer 26 not out as Liam Brown had 3-29 and Lee Trainer 3-19.

Wilcot 2nd XI did well to restrict visiting Biddestone 4th XI to 156-9; Simon Boor (62) and James Boulion (36) top scoring while Patrick Walmsley took 3-35 in 12 overs and Martin Cook 1-21 in 12. However, 12.1 overs later, Wilcot had collapsed to 21 all out as Neil Flemming (5-7 in 6) and Pete Knight (3-6 in 4) did the damage.

All Cannings 2nd XI were bowled out for 120 at home to Blunsdon 2nd XI with Garry Hargreaves (41) top scoring. All Cannings bowled well in response with Stephen Duffy taking 3-19 but they could not prevent Blunsdon gaining a three-wicket victory.
