A new builder's supply company yesterday enjoyed its first day of business in Wootton Bassett.
Town mayor Chris Wannell provided the snip of the scissors at the official opening of the new branch of Travis Perkins at the Coped Hall roundabout site.
The store, which opened for business at 7.30am, was soon welcoming its first customers despite some drizzly weather.
Branch manager Tony Laws said: "We've had a nice steady start with customers coming in and a few new accounts being opened."
Coun Wannell, who was accompanied by mayoress Audrey, said: "It's good to have new businesses opening up in our town and it gives variety to the people of Wootton Bassett."
Brian Taylor, chairman of the Wootton Bassett Chamber of Commerce, echoed his feelings. He said: "It's great news that units like that are being snapped up. It shows that Bassett is a healthy place for business and it can only make us more competitive."
Travis Perkins' regional sales manager Steve March said: "The site is in a very good position on the roundabout and has got good access.
"Wootton Bassett has been a targeted area for a while and with only one other competitor in the town we hope business will be good."
