GAZETTE & HERALD: WILTSHIRE Wildlife Trust's Calne Watch Group for young people is celebrating receiving a £4,000 grant from the local network fund to set up a short way-marked route in Castlefield Park.
The group's members, young wildlife enthusiasts aged between seven and 12, are thrilled to receive the grant and are looking forward to deciding on the 1-2 km route, which will wind its way through the park.
Together with a professional artist, the children will create drawings depicting the area's wildlife, which will then be etched into copper plates to mark the trail.
The etchings will encourage children to rub the designs and give them a reason to look for the next one.
The children together with Scouts, Brownies, Guides, Cubs and some local schoolchildren will also draw pictures into clay bricks for a small paved area around a seat and make bird boxes and other features to attract wildlife and add interest to the area.
Celia Stevens, the group's leader, said: "This is a great project involving young people making an area of land more accessible and inviting to other members of the community, especially families with young children."
The group meets every month for activities such as animal surveys, recycling, craft activities and talks.
Anyone interested in joining can contact Sarah Wood on (01380) 725670 ext 362 or Celia Stevens on (01249) 819133.
