GAZETTE & HERALD: A CALNE man has been ordered to keep the peace with his girlfriend after pushing her over because she was smoking.
Michael Flory, 38, of St Dunstans Close, pleaded guilty to common assault before Chippenham magistrates last Thursday.
On April 3 the pair, who live together, returned from a night out. The court heard that neither of them were drunk when Flory's Spanish girlfriend started smoking. He disapproved and screwed up her packet of cigarettes.
Michelle Hewitt, prosecuting, said the girlfriend retaliated by pouring alcohol from his drinks cabinet down the sink.
An argument escalated and Flory pushed his girlfriend on her shoulder and she fell on the floor.
He picked her up and she went upstairs crying saying she wanted to call the police.
Magistrates said in view of the fact that there was no previous history of domestic violence within the relationship and Flory is of good character he would be ordered to pay £100 and must keep the peace for six months.
