THE proprietors of the Bear Hotel in Devizes employed the services of a Feng Shui consultant during the recent refurbishment.
Andrew and Angela MacLachlan commissioned Chippenham-based consultant Summer Watson to advise on how their proposed changes were likely to affect the hotel's appeal.
Summer Watson said she was aware of the hotel's historic past, which included being bombarded during the English Civil War, and ghosts are rumoured to inhabit the ancient hostelry.
She said: "When you start to renovate a property it can disturb things and create problems. It has been an amazing journey for us all."
Mr and Mrs MacLachlan have invited a group of local dignitaries and business people to a tour to mark the completion of the renovation work on June 16. Tours for the public are scheduled for 3pm on June 26, July 31, August 28 and September 25. The charge is £5 and there is an optional cream tea and time to ask questions at the end of the tour. Visitors will see the newly refurbished ballroom and cellar bar and bedrooms.
