AN internet auction seller is hoping to turn around a quick buck with the sale of an old Swindon Town turnstile.
The unusual piece of Town's history should be sold this evening on the internet auction website eBay after 10 days of bidding.
The turnstile was used at Swindon Town Football Club until 2000 and is apparently in full working order and made from cast iron and even has a plaque on the top showing details of the company it was made by.
Last night, bidding for the Deluces Patent Rush Preventitive Turnstile, which was built in Manchester had not met its reserve price of £10.
Martin Kidson-Trigg of the Kidson Trigg Charter Surveyors and Auctioneers in Highworth said there was a great demand for items from Swindon's history but not necessarily from the younger eBay generation.
Mr Kidson-Trigg said: "There is a big demand for all sorts of items right across the sporting spectrum and in addition there is huge demand for items from Swindon, and I think if items like this are marketed properly they should fetch higher prices."
Roger Morris, one of the groundsmen at Swindon Town said he was surprised that the turnstile was on sale, saying he believed the old turnstiles had been broken up.
In the past few years, there have been quite a few unusual items from the Swindon area on sale on auction sites including a sign from the Golddiggers nightclub in Chippenham and even a four-bedroomed Swindon house.
