PEOPLE who oppose the introduction of ID cards always parrot the line "it didn't stop the bombing in Madrid".

But the ID cards in Spain are nowhere as sophisticated as the ones proposed for the UK, so this argument is false, and they know it.

Further terror is only one aspect of this.

Multiple identify fraud is just as important.

Stop it and our own old folk might be able to get a bigger pension.

Also, the police are often given false names and addresses by miscreants, and much time, effort and money is wasted trying to trace them.

These people who oppose ID cards with phoney arguments, you have to ask, what are they hiding?
