CORSHAM CRICKET: PETER Dennett scored his maiden first team century for Corsham on Saturday and is already setting his sights on a repeat in the near future.

The 23-year-old opener hit 107 as Corsham cruised to a 107-run win at home to Frenchay for their second successive victory in the West of England Premier Division.

Dennett has been at Station Road since he was a schoolboy, but until his match winning innings on Saturday, efforts to break his century duck had always ended in frustration.

After establishing himself as a first team regular last season, Dennett reached the 80s twice but on each occasion his nerve failed him as he fell sort of a ton.

He said: "It is very pleasing to finally get a century for the first team. When you reach the 80s the nerves get to you and then when I got into the 90s on Saturday it was even worse.

"But thankfully I managed to get over the 100 this time and hopefully it will help in the future.

"Now I have done it I hope to score a few more centuries this season.

"Corsham is the only club I have ever played for and I made my first team debut at 15. I played a few first team games at the end of the season before last and I was moved up as an opener midway through last season."

Dennett and Tom Abbott produced a 106-run opening partnership, with Richard Foley, 65 and a quick fire 61 from the returning Steve Perrin, putting Corsham in command at 318-4 off their 55 overs.

Toby Sharpe and Craig Chaplin then took three wickets apiece as Frenchay were dismissed for 211 of 40.5 overs.

Dennett, said: "We have had a good start to the season and I think it could have even better because we definitely should have got something out of the game we lost to Keynsham."

Corsham travel to take on league leaders Bath tomorrow.
