TROWBRIDGE CRICKET: RICHARD Holbrook has urged his Trowbridge side to show more patience after a batting collapse resulted in their second defeat of the season on Saturday.

After restricting Lydney to 228-4, the visitors were confident of reaching their target but the loss of the last six wickets for just 45 runs saw them crash to an 87 run defeat.

Trowbridge have the chance to rescue their Gloucester and Wilts Division One campaign in tomorrow's derby at home to Devizes but Holbrook knows his batsmen need to show more composure.

The Trowbridge skipper said: "We bowled and fielded well and restricted them to 228 and we were all quite happy with that.

"I would have backed our batsmen to reach that but after our usual steady start we were unable to build any partnerships.

"I think every one of our players that got out, got themselves out through playing a rash shot and perhaps we do just need a bit more patience."

Lydney elected to bat first and were immediately in trouble at 1-1 when Darryl Brown bowled opener Jim Kear out for a duck.

Tom Legge (4) soon followed, being caught by Brown off the bowling of Andy Hales, to leave the hosts struggling at 14-2.

Surviving opener Wayne Whitson then received a let off when dropped a few balls later and Trowbridge were made to pay for their mistake as he went on to hit 69 before being bowled by Andy Plowright.

Tim Stone (58 not out) and Tony Scott (22 not out) then guided Lydney to 228-4, a score well in the visitors' reach.

Trowbridge started their reply well, with Peter Hickerton (27) and Tom Oatley, 16, putting on a 34-run partnership before Oatley was caught.

With the exception of Brown, who was bowled for 50, all of Trowbridge's top and middle order batsmen failed to push on after reaching double figures as they were left struggling on 111-5.

After Des Gingell, 10, was stumped, Trowbridge's lower order suffered a collapse as they were all bowled out for 141 with none of their last five batsmen managing to score over five.

Trowbridge entertain Devizes tomorrow.
