BIDDESTONE CRICKET: KRIS Boulton believes tomorrow's trip to Rockhampton could be decisive in how his Biddestone side fare this season in Gloucestershire and Wiltshire Division Two.
Both sides enter the match with 100 per cent winning records and, with only two games played, the Biddestone captain is already describing it as a "crunch match."
Saturday's eight-wicket win at home to Cinderford was masterminded by another powerful performance by South African all-rounder Dwaine Perry and Biddestone will go into tomorrow's clash full of confidence.
Boulton said: "Tomorrow's match will be very interesting because Rockhampton are top of the league with three wins out of three. The early signs are they will be the team to beat. It is a crunch game and afterwards we will be able to see exactly where we are and I would have thought they will be thinking the same thing.
"We will go into the game positively and if we play the way we have been doing I am sure we will give them a good game."
Cinderford elected to bat but it looked a good toss to lose for Boulton as his opening bowlers, Michael Lodder and Dwaine Perry, ensured the visitors could only manage two runs per over for the first 11 overs.
Perry struck first by having the opener lbw for 18 and James Taylor had the other opener caught by Perry for 14.
Cinderford's number three batsman was bowled by Perry one run short of a careful half century but wickets for Taylor and Gordon Bedwell, plus the usual tight 10 over spell by Mark Unwin, restricted the visitors to 143 for five in their 45 overs.
In reply, openers Doug Miller and Matt Lennon were looking comfortable when the latter was out lbw for nine in the 10th over.
A second wicket partnership of 79 by Miller and Perry put the 100 on the board before Miller was caught by mid-off for 49. Perry (61 not out) and Lodder (14 not out) then steered the hosts to a comfortable win off just 34 overs.
Boulton said: "I was very pleased and very surprised how well we did. We bowled and fielded well despite losing the toss and ended up with nothing to chase.
"Two of our youngsters performed very well, James Taylor and Doug Miller, and that is very promising for the club's future."
