OVER 50S CRICKET: WILTSHIRE batsmen Hendy Alleyne and Anthony Warley produced a 97 run opening partnership as the county over 50s side beat Cornwall by 69 runs at Warminster.
The pair swept Wiltshire into a commanding position with a powerful display of batting as Wiltshire maintained their impressive start to the season.
Warley's 60 came from just 55 balls while Alleyne's 62 provided him with the perfect support as they raced to 97 off just 19 overs.
This set the tempo for the in form Tom Edmunds (47) and Tim Mynott (44 not out, who were ably supported by Colin Webb (22 not out) to help Wiltshire to an impressive 199-5 off 45 overs.
The final ten overs of the innings produced 99 runs with the innings including nine sixes.
Wiltshire's opening bowlers Phil Carroll and man of the match Mynott put paid to any hope the Cornishmen had of building a solid foundation as the first two wickets went down with only 13 runs on the board.
The visitors' tactics that followed were unclear to most of the onlookers as for long period of their innings their batsmen seemed to be taking time out for batting practice rather than chasing the Wiltshire total.
This may have lost them the opportunity of challenging the total as the hosts' change bowlers continued to strive for early season form.
The visit to Jersey in two weeks' time will undoubtedly provide the men of Wiltshire a more competitive and sterner test.
