THE birthday of a political prisoner in Burma is to be marked by a human rights charity in west Wiltshire.
Bradford on Avon Amnesty International Group will use its annual barn dance and rock evening to commemorate the 60th birthday of Aung San Suu Kyi.
Burma's Nobel Peace Laureate, Aung San Suu Kyi was placed under house arrest in September 2000 for travelling outside of the Burmese capital Rangoon for a political meeting.
Organiser Sheila Day said: "We did ask the singer Peter Gabriel if he could cut the cake, but he will be out of the country. Instead a Burmese woman from Bristol who has met her will be at the event."
'Music for Amnesty' is being held at Freshford village hall from 7.30-11pm on June 17. Tickets are priced £3-15 and are available on (01225) 723176.
