The cars involved at Bradford (17120/01)FOUR children and their mother were lucky to escape serious injury after their car rolled onto its roof following a collision.

The accident happened at the Leigh Park crossroads in Bradford on Avon after their green eight-seater Caravelle collided with a Vauxhall Corsa at 11.41am on Wednesday morning.

The driver of the blue Corsa was unconscious after the crash and taken to the Royal United Hospital, Bath, with head injuries and a fractured ankle. The family were treated for minor injuries and shock at Trowbridge Hospital.

Howard Hazell, who lives 100 metres from the crossroads, said despite a number of crashes at the crossroads, Wiltshire County Council was still refusing to accept the area as an accident blackspot.

He said: "One policeman told me it was the 10th accident he had attended here.

"According to Wiltshire County Council the crossroads is not an accident blackspot as not sufficient people have been killed here.

"They have changed the signs for the fourth time but the crossroads is still a give way system.

"A stranger driving along looking into the afternoon sun is not aware it's a crossroads."

A spokesman for Wiltshire County Council said: "We have made changes at this crossroads in an attempt to reduce the number of accidents. This has had some impact on the number of accidents, but we recognise that there is still a problem at this location."
