IT would not be unreasonable to say that there have been many highs and lows in your paper reflecting the issues and concerns of the people in west Wiltshire.

A definite low point was not publishing the name of the Lib Dem councillor who attacked his colleagues over something he disagreed with and has sought and achieved anonymity in your paper.

It is nothing short of cowardice for any politician, no matter what political persuasion to criticise his or her political colleagues and hide.

It is also a cynical abuse of the Letters page in your newspaper for any local politician to criticise others and not have the guts to identify themselves.

Everyone is entitled to their own views, however they should have enough integrity, especially if they are so-called community leaders, to stand up and say what they think is wrong and be prepared to defend themselves.

Possibly political opponents might think they will gain comfort from his or her comments.

I doubt it because they are the words of someone who hides when he openly criticises fellow political colleagues.

Your paper will never identify the individual, however my hope is that his political group will identify and disown this person.

If this letter is published, I am not afraid of having my name mentioned.

THE real evil of PR is that it destroys the vital link between constituency MP and voter, says John Hodgson, deriding complaints about our unfair voting system.

But PR (a system where you vote in order of preference rather than just putting a cross) would not destroy the link.

We could still vote for a local MP responsible locally to represent our constituency.

Twenty-two per cent of the electorate voted for the current Government at the general election. Seventy-eight per cent did not.

With only 22 per cent support, the Government still landed a large majority in Parliament.

Doesn't sound very democratic to me!
