MY husband and I attended the Lions Club Family Fun Day today, as we have done over the past few years. This year we looked forward to taking our dog. However, we had to leave early as she was banned and we did not want to leave her in the car all day.
It seems that there is a ban on dogs on the playing field. I was not aware of this and when we arrived at no point were we told about the dog ban. There is a council 'no dogs' sign so small I missed it.
I am a responsible dog owner, and always clear up after her. This was not good enough for the Lions Club steward who decided to ban my dog. It became quickly obvious that this rule was not being effectively upheld, evident by owners and their dogs walking around the car boot, plus vendors who took dogs in their cars, letting them out at the car boot. I was spoken to by a Bradford on Avon town councillor. He did not supply his name, just his title. He was concerned that his daughter has to pick up dog mess from the field.
First, I thought the council was paid to keep our parks clean and tidy. Secondly, does this mean dogs are allowed on the field? And thirdly, if not, how is this policed?
When imposing a rule surely one must be clear what it is and ensure it is policed properly. Perhaps next year's family fun day advert should include the dog ban, it would save the disappointment we experienced.
Our dog is our family, sadly she was not welcome at this family fun day, which is not a very good advertisement for the Lions. The council need to review the dog ban, it is not policed appropriately and I know many dog owners had to leave their pets in their cars.
NAME AND ADDRESS SUPPLIED
DOG fouling on public pathways is disgusting. In Bradford on Avon the amount of dog mess has increased a lot recently.
Dog mess attracts flies that land on it, then they fly off to somewhere else, often landing on food which may be your dinner! This will spread germs and you may get ill. Also, dog muck smells awful and looks awful. If you tread in it you will spread germs. If you are a dog owner please clean up after your dog or dogs. If you already clean up after your dog or dogs, then thank you.
