WILTHIRE police took the major honours in the regional police championships fished at Viaduct Fishery on Thursday.
Paul Williams, of Wiltshire, won with a carp catch weighing 103lb 14oz, taken on pole-fished pellets.
Right on his heels came Frome matchman Dave Stockton, fishing for Avon and Somerset, with another carp catch weighing 100lb 7oz, taken on pole-fished pellets. He was followed by Paul Hutton, of Wiltshire, with another carp catch weighing 88lb 1oz, taken on pole-fished pellets.
The Army AA open match was fished at Viaduct Fishery on Tuesday when carp fed well.
Trevor Senior won with a carp catch weighing 113lb 6oz, taken alternating with waggler and legered pellets. Runner-up was Steve Pearce, with a carp catch weighing 11lb 6oz, taken on legered catmeat on a 10 hook. He was followed by Martin Pullman, with a carp catch weighing 102lb 6oz.
Top silver fish catch was taken by Albert Mayo, with a roach and skimmer catch weighing 20lb 15oz.
Other placings: 4 John Oakey, 87lb 1oz; 5 Terry Speed, 79lb 15oz; 6 Brian Morger, 78lb 2oz.
With teams competing for a place in the regional semi-finals there was a tight finish to the event between Elfin, Chippenham and Wootton Bassett at Jubilee Lake.
Elgin won their place in the semi-final with 20 points with Chippenham in second spot with 18 and Wootton Bassett third with 10.
Individual honours went to Mark Wooldridge, of Chippenham, thanks to a bonus carp weighing 13lb 11oz which boosted his small roach catch to a winning weight of 14lb 10oz. He took his fish on pole-fished pellets.
The Wilts Angling open match at Rood Ashton on Thursday produced reasonable sport.
Mick Withy, of Westbury, won with a carp catch weighing 44lb 10oz, taken alternating with pole-fished pellets and sweetcorn.
Runner-up was Dave Baker, of Trowbridge, with a carp catch weighing 32lb, taken on pole-fished pellets.
Pete Neate, of Holt, was third with a carp catch weighing 31lb 4oz, taken on pole-fished pellets.
Other placings: 4 Paul Bond, Trowbridge, 28lb 3oz; 5 Glen Wicheard, Melksham, 24lb 6oz.
Competitors enjoyed mixed sport in the Airsprung open match on Sunday at Rood Ashton.
Dean Bird, of Bradford, won with a carp catch weighing 54lb 11oz, taken on pole- fished pellets for an easy win.
There was a tie for second spot between Terry Gatty, of Melksham, and Steve Shaw, of Trowbridge, both with carp catch weighing 38lb 1oz.
Both took their catches on method feeder fished red maggots.
Other placings: 4 Howard Carpenter, Trowbridge, 28lb 1oz; 5 Neil Hounsell, Trowbridge, 24lb 14oz; 6 Ian Stainer, Bradford, 24lb 10oz.
