Age Concern Wiltshire has been involved in a project to prepare young people for the world of work.
Through the E2E (Entry to Employment) course at Chippenham College, Devizes student Elizabeth Porter has been working for the charity, based in her home town.
Elizabeth, 19, from Longcroft Road, Devizes, said: “I have enjoyed working for Age Concern. I’ve been here since October and if they were to offer me a full-time job, I would be pleased.”
Liddy Davidson, director of Age Concern Wiltshire, said: “Elizabeth has been working with Emily Cole on the Big Knit project, getting volunteers to knit items to raise money for our Big 60 fundraising campaign.
“This is the first time we have had a placement from Wiltshire College and it is working extremely well.”
Judy Buchanan, the training co-ordinator for E2E, said: “We are grateful to Age Concern Wiltshire for their participation in our project.”
Elizabeth has involved the rest of the E2E course at Chippenham College in the Big 60 Appeal, aimed at raising £60,000 during the charity’s 60th anniversary year.
The group aimed to raise £60 from a coffee morning they held last month but, in fact, Elizabeth was able to present a cheque for £160 to Mrs Davidson and Mike Weston, the new chairman of trustees of Age Concern Wiltshire.
