Actress Zoe Wannamaker, foorballer Michael Owen and rock star Peter Gabriel are among celebrities who have answered Age Concern Wiltshire’s appeal for help.
The charity is trying to raise £60,000 during its 60th anniversary year and their biggest fundraiser of the year is a charity auction taking place at Marlborough Golf Club on Saturday November 28.
Zoe Wannamaker, who lives in the Pewsey area, has donated a film schedule from an episode of the hit TV thriller series Poirot which she has signed herself.
Then there are signed photos from Michael Owen, who now plays for Manchester United, Peter Gabriel, survival expert Bear Grylls and TV personality Fern Britton.
Ms Britton has also provided an autographed book as has England rugby union player Phil Vickery.
Successful bidders can benefit from a flight in a Cessna light aircraft, a polo taster session, clay pigeon shooting, rounds of golf at some of Wiltshire’s best courses, a spa day, skin care analysis, tickets to a professional pantomime, a tour of Wadworth’s brewery and even a day at their local fire station.
Among the gifts on offer are a hat from Fortnum and Mason, an early bargeware jug, a Hermes bracelet, a beautiful antique jewellery box, a Poole Pottery vase, a food hamper and a designer dog bed.
Age Concern Wiltshire has organised the auction just before Christmas as a source of unusual presents for even the most difficult person to buy for.
The charity’s director, Liddy Davidson, explained: “If you are tired of trailing around the shops in search of Christmas presents and are looking for something more imaginative to buy, we guarantee that you will have a great night out and find an unusual present for all the family.
“We are delighted with the support received from all of our donors and very excited to have secured items from footballer Michael Owen, musician Peter Gabriel and other celebrities.”
