Age Concern worker Elliot Potter has completed a walking challenge – by pacing the corridors of a hospital while waiting for the birth of his first child.
Mr Potter and partner Natasha Revening, who live in Devizes, are now the proud parents of baby Olivia Rose, who was born at the Royal United Hospital in Bath.
Mr Potter was in a team of seven from Age Concern Wiltshire who took part in the Global Walking Challenge in which each individual was given a pedometer and set a target of 10,000 steps per day.
Mr Potter described the target as challenging and said: “We all plan to carry on walking as much as possible.”
The challenge, part of the charity’s Big 60 Appeal to mark its 60th anniversary, was sponsored by Wiltshire & Swindon Activity & Sports Partnership.
Over 125 days the team walked a total of just under eight and a half million steps, the equivalent of 3,355 miles.
Each member walked an average of 9,642 steps a day, or just under four miles.
Each day, the team entered their step count on to a website that plotted their progression along a virtual tour of the world.
Age Concern Wiltshire aims to raise £60,000 to enable the charity to help older people in the county.
The deadline for knitted vegetable pot warmers has been extended to October 29. For details call (01380) 710411.
