Age Concern Wiltshire are writing to celebrities in Wiltshire and beyond as they prepare for their biggest fundraising event of the year.
They have organised a grand charity auction and dinner at Marlborough Golf Club on Saturday November 28.
They have already been pledged valuable donations from local businesses, such as a round of golf for four on the Marlborough course, a lesson at Barbury Shooting School and a make-up session at Champney’s in Bath.
Now they are writing to such famous local residents as George Baker, Robbie Williams and Peter Gabriel to ask them to help.
Along with letters, the charity’s director Liddy Davidson is sending the VIPs a blank sheet of card and asking them to create an original work of art – a drawing, poem or joke – on it.
TV presenter Fern Britton and rugby player Phil Vickery are among the celebrities that have agreed to provide items.
Devizes TV chef Peter Vaughan has pledged a meal for two at his restaurant, The Bistro, in the Little Brittox.
Mrs Davidson is hoping that supporters will rummage in their attics to find a small artefact that might raise a few pounds at auction.
Alan Aldridge, of Henry Aldridge & Son auctioneers in Devizes, has agreed to wield the gavel on the night.
Mrs Davidson said: “We have been delighted by the early response to our appeal for auction lots but we are still seeking more.”
