A 30-year-old farm worker from Chirton, near Devizes, had to be flown to hospital after he put his back out while tagging a cow.
The incident took place in the middle of a field on Thursday morning.
The man had grabbed hold of the back legs of the cow to bring it to ground in order to tag it at about 9.30am on Thursday when the cow kicked back at him.
The reflex of his doubling up threw his back out and he was left in great pain.
Being unable to reach his own vehicle, he called 999 and the air ambulance was dispatched to his aid.
He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being flown to Great Western Hospital for an X-ray and observation.
His injuries are not thought to be serious.
