It was celebrations all round at St Mary’s School in Calne where nearly half the students gained eight A* to A grades in their GCSEs.
More than two thirds of the girls achieved an A* or A grade in their exams, with 99 per cent being awarded grades A* to C in all their subjects.
Top ranking individuals include three girls who each managed to achieve 10 or more A* GCSEs – Camilla Adams from Netheravon got 10 A* grades, Beverley Tsang from Chippenham was awarded 10.5 A* grades and 1 A, while Holly Manners from Pewsey, whose mother was head girl at St Mary’s, gained 10.5 A*s.
The girls excelled in modern languages with three-quarters scoring an A* or A in French and Spanish, and 12 students taking the exams early achieved the top grade.
Headteacher Dr Helen Wright said: “We are delighted with this strong GCSE performance and particularly impressed at the outstanding success of girls taking exams early.
“We believe in personalising each girl’s curriculum according to their individual strengths which has resulted in this early GCSE success.”
Continuing the school’s success rate in maths and the sciences at A-level last week, nearly 70 per cent of girls scored an A* to A in their maths GCSE, with more than nine in 10 students taking maths exams early achieving the top ranking A* grade.
