Eager supporters braved bad weather at Castle Combe racing circuit to put the zing in an evening of wacky races in aid of Age Concern Wiltshire’s Big 60 Appeal.

The fun cycling event had been organised with the help of Andy Cook, national non-competitive events manager of British Cycling.

He and his team put together a series of fun races and people of all ages took advantage of it.

Big 60 Appeal chief Belinda Fowler said: “I will never forget the joy on the face of a three-year-old boy as he crossed the finish line after cycling the full 1.8 miles.”

The oldest competitor was 77-year-old Roy Burden from Chippenham.

In such bad weather nutrition was vital and the organisers were fortunate to have food provided by McBaile Exclusive Catering and Events Services.

Emily Cole of Age Concern Wiltshire thanked everyone who backed the event, which raised £250.

She said: “The event would not have been possible without the generous free use of the track and facilities by Graham Marshallsay, managing director of Castle Combe race track, support of McBaile who organised the barbecue, Garden Marquees, Andy Cook and Trish Cowie, who came up with the idea for the event, Chippenham Wheelers and Chippenham Rotary Club who marshalled the event.”
