Age Concern Wiltshire has cancelled its sponsored walk in Pewsey because it cannot get enough stewards required under health and safety laws.
The walk along King Alfred’s Trail was due to take place on September 13 as part of the Big 60 Appeal. But it was so close to Pewsey Carnival that organisers failed to find enough volunteers to man the course.
Belinda Fowler, who is in charge of the Big 60 Appeal, said: “It came too soon after our Castle Combe cycling event and the carnival is the following weekend.”
“It is very disappointing having to cancel it, but we are hoping to be able to do it at a later date.”
Age Concern Wiltshire is trying to raise £60,000 in its 60th year to support its services to older and vulnerable people living on their own in the county.
So far they have raised over £10,000 with many pledges to come in.
