St John Ambulance in Devizes is offering free blood pressure checks after research discovered that one in three people in the UK suffer from high blood pressure.

The Wiltshire St John Ambulance HQ at Hopton Park industrial estate in Devizes is among 1,500 ‘pressure stations’ taking part in the nation’s biggest testing event run by the charity Blood Pressure Association.

The checks will take place during Know Your Numbers Week from September 7 to 13.

St John Ambulance says one in three adults in the UK – about 16 million people – has high blood pressure, yet a third of those who have the condition don’t even know because it has no symptoms.

Untreated, it can result in stroke, heart attack and heart failure, but once diagnosed it can be easily managed.

The free blood pressure checks are available between 9.30am and 4.30pm on September 11, at the county headquarters at the Beacon Business Centre at Hopton.
